TürkTraktör Joining Forces with the Woman in Technology Association (WTECH) to Boost the Use of Technology and Innovation

TürkTraktör, the first manufacturer of the Turkish automotive sector, enters into a new collaboration in line with its gender equality commitments in technology and innovation under Koç Holding's global leadership in the Generation Equality Forum by UN Women. With the support of the Woman in Technology Association (WTECH), TürkTraktör's Miracles of the Sprouts Technology and Innovation Project will offer university students vision trainings on technology and innovation in 2023.

Underlining TürkTraktör’s commitment on social responsibility projects for 68 years, Aykut Özüner, TürkTraktör CEO, said: “With the ‘Miracles of the Sprouts Technology and Innovation’ project, we aim to improve the involvement of young women in the technologies of the future.”

Özüner added: “With a comprehensive study to be carried out throughout Turkey, we take a valuable step to enable women to have an equal place in the competent and expert human resources that Turkey will need in technology and innovation between 2025 and 2030. As TürkTraktör, we focus on our aim ‘TürkTraktör Prepares for the Future’ in all our works affecting our shareholders. Our products and services help transform and prepare agriculture and cities for the future. We also develop projects to contribute to the transformation of society.

We strive to realize our commitments made under the gender equality campaign launched by the Koç Group in technology and innovation with the motto ‘Dreams Are Our Goal’. Now, in cooperation with the Woman in Technology Association (WTECH), we set out on a vision and expertise development journey as a part of our commitments.”

Talking about the collaboration, Zehra Öney, Founding President of the Woman in Technology Association (WTECH) said: “As the Woman in Technology Association, we are happy to carry out the ‘Miracles of the Sprouts Technology and Innovation’ project with TürkTraktör. The project aims to contribute to the technological literacy of 4000 young female university students, to develop their vision and knowledge, especially in transforming technologies, and then to assist them in their journey of specialization in a talent-oriented manner, and to support them to participate in employment as technology experts and strong individuals with internship opportunities after their graduation.

According to the statistics published by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), 4,580,000 undergraduate graduates enrolled in the 2021-2022 academic year with almost half, 2.2 million, being women. The rate of graduates from STEM programs is about 17%, and according to the UNDP data, 34.7% of this rate is women. Unfortunately, these educational figures are not reflected in employment. According to the Labor Force Statistics 2022 report published by TurkStat, 30,787,000 people are employed with only 30.5% being women. In the field of R&D, this rate decreases to only 21.1% of a total of 221,811 people.

According to the statistics of the World Economic Forum, by 2030, 7.6 million jobs will be lost and 8.9 million new jobs will be created worldwide. It is predicted that there will be a need for 3.5 - 4 million specialists and qualified human resources in Turkey. In order to close this gap, people will need to become experts in the subjects also included in our program, gain new skills, and transform their existing skills.

We aim to bring people to the Turkish technology sector with a focus on talent, not gender, by handling issues such as the male-dominance in technology and the low participation and power of women in the sector.

TürkTraktör’s investment in women’s participation in technology and innovation and commitment to a long-term project is in line with the founding objectives of the Woman in Technology Association. We are happy and proud to take part in this project as an NGO business partner.”
